EUCOMMvsDISINFO at the European Parliament
Engaging with MEPs & Fighting Disinformation

Our last meeting was held in Brussels and was a milestone for the EUCOMMvsDISINFO project, as our delegations from Cyprus, Italy, Poland, Spain and Greece carried out key activities at the European Parliament, engaging directly with policymakers on the urgent need for bottom-up strategies to counter disinformation.

We had the honor of meeting with Cypriot MEP Michalis Hadjipantela that we would like to thank for his cooperation and coordination in order for the delegations to have access in the European Parliament. We also had a chance to meet with Polish MEP Michał Andrzej Kobosko, and Italian MEP Nicola Zingaretti, presenting the work done by our European network to empower communities with fact-checking tools and digital literacy initiatives. This exchange allowed us to highlight the crucial role of citizen-driven efforts in strengthening democratic resilience against disinformation.
During the meeting, we also had the opportunity to deliver the project’s community fact-checking guides, key resources developed throughout EUCOMMvsDISINFO to support local initiatives in identifying and combating fake news.

We also had an insightful seminar led by Jacob Lolck from the European Parliament Spokesperson’s Unit, titled The European Parliament and the Fight Against Disinformation. His intervention provided a deeper understanding of the EU’s institutional approach to countering misinformation, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between policymakers, media, and civil society.
This trip was a powerful reminder that tackling disinformation requires a joint effort between institutions and grassroots initiatives—and EUCOMMvsDISINFO is proud to be at the forefront of this mission.
